45 Yr 11/10 GCSE students and 5 staff visited Poland between April 30th and May 3rd. Our visit took in a walking tour of Krakow old town, Schindlers’ factory, Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, a river trip on the Vistula, salt mines underground tour and Galicia IMG_5045museum where we met a Holocaust survivor. The visit supported students’ studies in History and PEARS, giving a first-hand insight into the horrors of the Holocaust. One student commented “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity as I don’t think I will go back to Auschwitz – interesting and helped me to picture what it was like to be persecuted by the Nazis- the victims living conditions and their daily life” All the students rated the visit either “Excellent” or “Good”. Our Head Girl adds “I would definitely recommend a visit to Auschwitz as you only begin to understand the Holocaust when you have walked in the place where the victims walked and were taken to their deaths”. Our students were a credit to the school, the hotel comfortable and the food excellent. For the majority who took part and leave soon, we thank them for their company and wish them well for the future.IMG_5029
