Learning Support Faculty

‘Achievement For All’

Beacon Hill Academy aims to ensure access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum for all students. The Learning Support Dept. provides support programmes to meet the needs of a number of students who for a range of reasons find it difficult to access education. This may include students who have a temporary need e.g. suffering a bereavement. Whereas, others may have had a prolonged absence, or be new to the school and need a period of supported induction. The department works with a range of services: Connexions, the community police, the school counsellor/nurse, to ensure that our students are given the support they need to achieve their full potential. Students on the additional educational needs register (AEN) or those identified as requiring additional support, can access LS for specific help: they are taught within smaller groups or individually. We work closely with a range of agencies such as: the Learning Support Service, Educational Psychology, Autism Outreach, Speech and Language and the Disabilities Team, to ensure that students needs are identified and appropriate support is provided both within our department and in the wider school.
