SSC

The SSC opened in November 2012; it is situated behind learning support and consists of three teaching rooms. Students that use the SSC say that they like learning in smaller groups and are often reluctant to leave.

It is used to support students who need specific interventions to enable them to keep on track for their English GCSE. In the main, these interventions are intended to be short term – enabling students to develop and consolidate their literacy skills. Students are withdrawn from Modern Foreign Languages and Pears, whilst they work in the SSC and then return to a full timetable once they are securely on target. Groups up to a maximum of six students work together at any one time and some students work on a one to one basis. Other students are supported in the SSC to improve their basic literacy and social skills; within a smaller environment; this enables staff to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the individuals. The SSC work closely with the student support managers to support the emotional needs of pupils.
