On Saturday 9th April members of the concert band took part in The National Festival of the National Concert Band Festival at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. The festival the concert band performed in was the National Festival of this event which was made up of all the qualifying bands from the various Regional Festivals held in November.

Each band were required to perform a 20 minute programme to include one piece by a British composer. The concert band began their programme with Celebration Variations by James Curnow. They then followed with the required British piece by Goff Richards entitled A Special Place. The programme finished with a piece by another American composer, Steven Reineke, called Pilatus: Mountain of Dragons.

The band were awarded a gold award for their efforts which is the second time in succession that the band have achieved this at the National Festival. In the adjudication remarks the band were praised for the commitment and dedication towards the performance. Lucy Broome (8RL), Josh Yates (11MS), Charli Reynolds (8BI), Jake Nicholls (8KP), Josh Kitoto (8RL), Georgia Rowley (Sixth Form) all took part in this National Festival for the first time with also some stand out performances from some of the more experienced students who performed solos.

The band will look forward to hearing the outcome of The Music For Youth Regional Festival in the next few weeks.
