European Day of Languages
On Friday 25th September, we celebrated European Day of Languages at Beacon Hill Academy. Learners in Year 7 and 8 experienced a bespoke curriculum which was all based around European Languages.
For example, in History Learners investigated the history of the English Language, in English learners studied Welsh Poetry, in Science learners studied the human body (naming aspects in French) and in Music they experienced a Eurovision style competition - just to name a few!
All learners experienced a different language greeting (“Bonjour”, “Hola”, “Guten tag” and more) on entry to each lesson across the day, and were able to take part in a year group quiz where they could work their way around their zone during their social time to find and answer the various language-related questions. We received lots of entries for this and we are looking forward to drawing both a KS3 and KS4 winner later today!
Mrs Spicer visited lots of lessons throughout the day where she noted:
“I was lucky enough to witness lots of amazing lessons with really high levels of engagement”.
She also spoke to a number of year 7 learners and asked them the best part of their day with positive responses across all subject areas!
